Lana Parrilla Being Hammy in Season 4

Lana Parrilla evil queen onceuponatimeabc.filminspector.com

Now that the first half of Season Four of 'Once Upon a Time' is in the history books, let's take a quick look back at some of the Evil Queen's hammiest moments as displayed by charming Lana Parrilla.

As is often the case with these types of dramatic series, over time the rough characters gradually have their rough edges shorn off. Soon, the 'evil' characters are trading polite banter with their former 'enemies' and making darned sure to be politically correct as they shoot off the occasional wisecrack showing that they're 'just plain folks' after all.

Well, fortunately for fans of 'Once Upon a Time,' Lana has not fallen under that particular television 'evil spell' among all the other curses that befell the denizens of Storybrooke recently. She had a few choice moments during these episodes to revert to the hammy goodness at the heart of her evil character and toss off some trademark snarls. Of course, she gets a tremendous kick out of it herself as she vamps it up for the cameras.

Season 4 Screen Time for Major Characters

screen time season 4 onceuponatimeabc.filminspector.com

Here is a neat graph showing the screen time for the major characters of 'Once Upon a Time' during Season 4.

It shows that Emma received the most screen time this year, whereas Regina had even less time than Rumple, Hook or even Charming, which is a bit of a surprise.

The biggest surprise, though, is how Hook managed to get the third most screen time - basically tied for second - even though he isn't even supposedly a regular. Obviously, his character is the breakout star of Season 4. Colin O'Donoghue must be smiling.

Snow's screen time, meanwhile, has plummeted. She had a new baby to take care of during 2014, so that may be partly the reason.

Well, the numbers do not lie, Hook has become a mainstay of the show. Don't kid yourself - these folks keep close track of who's getting air time - and who is not.

Winter Finale ABC Promo 4x12 'Heroes and Villains'

4x12 Heroes and Villains onceuponatimeabc.filminspector.com

Once Upon a Time 4x11 "Heroes and Villains" (Winter Finale) - 'Prepare yourself for the chilling Winter Finale. As one great story comes to an end, another begins. Welcome the queens of darkness!'

It does not take a genius to figure out from the shot below - of a certain car parked outside Mr. Gold's Pawnshop on 2 December 2014 - where the spring block of 'Once Upon a Time' will lead us. It merely takes having seen a certain film that is a classic  Walt Disney animated feature film.

Cruella De Vil (Victoria Smurfit) is on her way in her black and white with red interior showcar. One has to wonder if there will be any cute animals involved. We shall see.

It also means that the 'Frozen' block is coming to an end.

4x11 'Shattered Sight' ABC Promo

Colin O'Donoghue 'Hook' challenges fan 'Jake' to a duel

Once Upon a Time 4x11 Promo "Shattered Sight" (HD)

Once Upon a Time 4x11 "Shattered Sight" - A curse brings out the no good dirty rotten in everyone. Even the sweet Snow White is taking evil to another level. Just one episode remains until the winter finale!

It's a little unclear what is going on in this episode - the good townspeople of Storybrooke were supposed to kill each other, not go to jail - but it's a bit refreshing to see the Evil Queen being evil again. It looks like a good episode for Mary Margaret as well, she actually gets to do something again.

There remains some confusion about the episode numbering. Because of the two-hour pre-Thanksgiving showing, that airdate counted as two discrete episodes. Thus, that airdate showed both 4x08 and 4x9. Episode 4x10 aired on 30 November 2014. That means that the upcoming 'Shattered Sight' episode that is scheduled to air on 7 December 2014 is technically 4x11, not 4x10 as some believe. This may not seem like a big deal now, but when people look back on the fourth season, it is going to be awfully confusing unless we keep the episode numbers straight all along. Heck, it's already confusing and it just happened! Undoubtedly, everybody will get back into synch during the hiatus that will begin in two weeks.

4x10 'Fall' Sneak Peek

Elsa Emma onceuponatimeabc.filminspector.com

ET has a special sneak peek at the Season Four episode 'Fall,' 4x10 in the ABC 'Once Upon a Time' canon. For those who have been following along - and you better not miss too many episodes if you want to stay up to speed on the convoluted plot - right now it is all about the evil truth of the Spell of Shattered Sight, The Snow Queen's (Elizabeth Mitchell) plan, and her potential allies in the destruction of Storybrooke.

There is a good collection of official ABC stills here that will give you even more insights into the episode.

In the Sunday, November 30th 2014 episode, "Fall," the Spell of Shattered Sight approaches Storybrooke. Mary Margaret and David rally the residents to prepare for the curse while Belle and the fairies work together on an antidote.

Gold, with Hook along as his zombie-fied servant (Gold took Hook's heart to free himself from the Dagger), sets about trying to craft a separate solution for himself. Regina and Robin Hood prepare for the worst to happen. With the help of a locator spell, Emma and Elsa search desperately for Anna. Meanwhile, back in Arendelle, Anna and Kristoff awaken to find that their own kingdom is once again in danger from the forces of destruction.

The romances involving the three female leads - Emma, Regina, Mary Margaret - are in full swing at this point, with lots of hugging and kissing. Hey, it's better than standing around giving everyone evil glares for 60 minutes every week! These guys have probably been begging for some kind of love interest to give them something to do for the past three years.

"Once Upon a Time" stars: Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David Nolan, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O'Donoghue as Hook, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry, Michael Socha as Will Scarlet and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Guest stars include Lee Arenberg as Leroy/Grumpy, Keegan Connor Tracy as Mother Superior/Blue Fairy, Sean Maguire as Robin Hood, Georgina Haig as Elsa, Elizabeth Lail as Anna, Scott Michael Foster as Kristoff, Charles Mesure as Black Beard, Raphael Alejandro as Roland, Tyler Jacob Moore as Hans, Nils Hognestad as Franz, Marcus Rosner as Jurgen and Elizabeth Mitchell as the Snow Queen.

4x10 'Fall' Official ABC Promo

4x10 Fall onceuponatimeabc.filminspector.com

Once Upon a Time 4x10 Promo "Fall" (HD)

Once Upon a Time 4x10 episode "Fall" - A villain whose power is now complete casts a final spell and Storybrooke prepares for the worst.

Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots from October 9-10, 2014, when they were filming.

The episode airs after a one-week break for Thanksgiving. Air date is 30 October 2014.

While this is the ninth Sunday airing of the series during Season 4, 'Fall' technically is 4x10, not 4x09 as I originally put down here. This is all about studio logic: ABC counted the first hour of the two-hour airing on 16 November 2014 as 4x08 and the second hour of the two-hour airing on 16 November 2014 as 4x09. Makes perfect sense in studio terms: it will keep things simple for people down the road, when ABC or its syndicator airs the second hour of the 16 November 2014 airing as a separate hour in syndication or in re-runs. There won't have to be any "Oh, but remember, 4x08 is a two-hour job" to complicate everything, just make them separate one-hour shows from the start. People simply watching that night (like me) probably wouldn't have considered that second hour as anything particularly different in terms of episode numbers from the first hour, but this is how the business rolls, and you were probably way ahead of me about this all along anyway.
