"Once: Wonderland" title of spin-off

Sophie Lowe Cast as Alice

Sophie Lowe onceuponatimeabc.blogspot.com

The spin-off from "Once Upon a Time" finally has an official title. "Once: Wonderland" begins filming on April 7 2013. English-born Australian actress Sophie Lowe will play Alice, while British actor Peter Gadiot is cast as her love interest, Cyrus. They previously announced that British actor Michael Socha as The Knave, so all of the main leads will be foreign-born. This actually continues a Disney tradition for "Alice in Wonderland," as Alice in the 1951 classic animated Disney film was voiced by London-born Kathryn Beaumont. Mia Wasikowska, who played Alice in Tim Burton's 2010 live-action version, was born in Australia.

According to Deadline.com, Jane Espenson and Zack Estrin have helped Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the creators of "Once Upon a Time," with a four-scene script. Estrin will run the show if it gets picked up, with Espenson returning to the flagship show. Steve Pearlman, who executive produces "Once Upon a Time," will do the same with the spinoff.

Fans of "Once Upon a Time" may be heartened to hear that fan favorite Barbara Hershey, who played the Queen of Hearts, is rumored to be featured in the spinoff series.

Michael Socha Joins Spin-Off

English Actor Michael Socha Joins "Once" Spinoff

Michael Socha onceuponatimeabc.blogspot.com
Michael Socha

Jane Espenson and Zack Estrin have put together a presentation for a "Once Upon a Time" spin-off. Rather than focusing on the Mad Hatter, as previously thought, the as-yet untitled spin-off will simply follow Alice as she has adventures in Wonderland. Michael Socha will star as The Knave, a loner who loves 'em and leaves 'em. Amahl, who has yet to be cast, will be more of a friendly sidekick type of character.

Michael Socha has been starring in "Being Human" in England. He is the brother of Lauren Socha,. Michael has starred in several series in England, including "This is England."

Production of the pilot - which obviously will need to be picked up before it actually becomes a "spin-off" - is slated to start on April 7, which doesn't leave much time to cast the other major roles. No doubt, several young actors and actresses have their fingers crossed right now in hopes that they will land one of those roles.

ABC Television Network
PRESS RELEASE - PRESS RELEASE - ENTERTAINMENT -
ONCE UPON A TIME: The Price of Magic

TAKE A LOOK BACK AT HOW THE RESIDENTS OF STORYBROOKE HAVE FARED SINCE THEIR FAIRYTALE MEMORIES HAVE BEEN RESTORED, ON THE RETROSPECTIVE "ONCE UPON A TIME: THE PRICE OF MAGIC," SUNDAY, APRIL 14 ON ABC

Series Creators/Executive Producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to
Offer Some Inside Scoop on What's Transpired and What's to Come

ABC invites new and avid "Once Upon a Time" viewers to take a look at one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed shows. "Once Upon a Time: The Price of Magic" will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date -- but which current viewers will also find illuminating - in discovering the consequences the residents of Storybrooke have had to endure since magic was introduced into the town, and whether Mary Margaret's path has been tainted since learning that her heart has been darkened after she killed Regina's mother, Cora. Series creators and executive producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will provide some inside scoop on the importance of family, the characters' journeys and the mythology of the show. They will also tease what's upcoming in the exciting final four episodes of the season. "Once Upon a Time: The Price of Magic" airs SUNDAY, APRIL 14 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Nothing is more important than family, and this season has shown just how close these bonds are, even between good and evil. Magic always comes with a price: the residents have come to discover just how true these words are ever since Mr. Gold introduced magic into Storybrooke when the curse was broken. Mary Margaret and Emma - mother and daughter reunited - were sucked into a portal that transported them to what was left of fairytale land. It was there that they met Mulan and Aurora, who helped them defeat Cora and Hook and enabled them to travel back to Storybrooke, reuniting them with Emma's father David and son Henry. But Cora and Hook also found a portal into town, and Cora set her sights on reuniting with daughter Regina. She also tried to find Rumplestiltskin's dagger in order to take him down and become The Dark One. Hook set his sights on killing Rumple, not for power but for revenge for killing his true love (and Rumple's former wife), Milah. Mr. Gold also set out to find his son Bae, which he did with the aid of Emma and Henry in New York. But much to everyone's shock, Bae turned out to be Emma's former love, Neal, who is also Henry's father. Upon returning to Storybrooke to find a cure for Mr. Gold, who was poisoned by Hook, Mary Margaret did something completely against her nature - she used dark magic to kill Cora - causing her heart to darken. And what plan does Greg Mendell, who has been recuperating in town since his car accident, have in store for the magical inhabitants of Storybrooke? Greg saw magic as a boy in the town and believes Regina may have killed his father. His price of magic may just be revenge.

"Once Upon a Time" stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O'Donoghue as Hook, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Meghan Ory as Red Riding Hood/Ruby, and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold.

"Once Upon a Time" is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format with a 5.1 channel surround sound. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.

Jane Espenson Comments on Spinoff

Jane Espenson is a TV Screenwriting Legend

Jane Espenson
As many of you no doubt know, Jane Espenson is one of the lead writers on "Once Upon a Time." You may read a little about her background on our page about the show's creators. Jane Espenson knows things about the show, the spinoff, and anything else there is to know about "Once Upon a Time" that we don't, that's for sure. She has a sterling reputation on Twitter for being open and candid about what is going on in her life and with the show. Anyway, on Twitter (March 19 2013) she off-handedly dropped a few hints about the spinoff that had been the subject of rumors (such as that it would focus on the Mad Hatter character).

One rumor that Jane Espenson addressed was that she would be one of the writers on an "Alice in Wonderland" spin-off from "Once Upon a Time." She is quoted as saying the following:
“I’m thrilled to be involved! Eddy and Adam are inspiring, and I am eager to work with them on any project they have going.”
Jane's involvement in the spinoff subsequently was confirmed elsewhere (to the extent that you can believe anything not officially announced by ABC). Jane Espenson reportedly is one of the two writers preparing the pilot of the spinoff, which will be called "Once: Wonderland." The spinoff series (if it is picked up) will focus on Alice and her adventures in the Lewis Carroll wonderland. After helping with that script, Jane Espenson reportedly will return to the parent show, "Once Upon a Time."

Below are some other comments that Jane Espenson made (I have removed unrelated tweets during the conversation, you can view everything on Jane Espenson's verified twitter stream):
Jane Espenson Verified account ‏@JaneEspenson:  There is a lovely story circulating about the Once spinoff. It has several important facts very wrong. #ButIWontTellYouWhichOnes
David O'Neill ‏@David_ONeill_@JaneEspenson: Oh, and I thought http://Deadline.com was fairly accurate.
Jane Espenson Verified account ‏@JaneEspenson:  @David_ONeill_ that's not the one I meant. Others said I had inked an overall deal.
Katy ‏@leanansidhe220@JaneEspenson: Once isn't leaving us, is it?!?!?!?!
Jane Espenson Verified account ‏@JaneEspenson: @leanansidhe220 Of course not!  They don't make a spinoff if you're not a hit!
Kelly ‏@FrenchieKelly: @JaneEspenson recasting Sebastian Stan. Eddy and @AdamHorowitzLA confirmed at paleyfest #muchtomyenjoyment #imactuallyheadofthefanclub
Jane EspensonVerified account ‏@JaneEspenson: @FrenchieKelly @AdamHorowitzLA we are not recasting.

Everything that Jane Espenson tweeted comports with what we subsequently have learned.
